The Moth gets its name from the fabric Phalaenopsis (Moth) orchid flower that adorns this hat. A close look reveals the lovely purple spotted throat to the flower which is truly life like. A purple and lilac fabric combination surrounds the hat, is gathered to one side and cushions the beautiful little pocket watch. Silver and glass beads has been included in the Ratty Tat hatpin to round off the design.

The Moth is a purple top hat with a 5” high crown. It is handmade from 100% wool with all embellishments hand sewn into position, lined with Ratty Tat Hat's branding, pale gold satin and finished to a fine heirloom quality. Each hat is presented in its own Ratty Tat hatbox and securely sent in a double-skin outer box.

  • The size shown above is the circumference of the hat's inner headband. We would suggest using a dressmaker’s tape measure to ascertain the head circumference of the wearer (measurement to be taken from above eyebrows and around widest part of head). Ratty Tat Hats are made from heavy wool and therefore quite rigid so measurements need to be accurate in order to provide a comfortable fit.

Steampunk Creations

Steampunk is a Neo-Victorian style which includes science fiction and fantasy references. It conjures up thoughts of steampowered machinery, airships, pioneers and swashbuckling adventures whilst often embracing the romance of Victorian glamour.

There are many examples of Steampunk influences within films such as Alice in Wonderland, Around the World in 80 Days, Sherlock Holmes and The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
